Safeguarding Children in Golf Derbyshire Union of Golf Clubs fully supports the EGU in ensuring the safety of chlidren within golf. Detailed below is the recent press release from the EGU. Click here to view the EGU document. English Golf Union Approves Child Protection Policy 1st November 2007
For Immediate Publication At the English Golf Union Ltd. General Meeting, held on 31st October 2007, the 34 County Union Voting Member representatives overwhelmingly voted to approve and adopt the EGU Child Protection Policy.
The County Unions also approved the Children in Golf Strategy Group’s “Guidelines for Safeguarding Children in Golf”. Both documents will be printed and distributed to all County Unions and EGU affiliated clubs in the New Year.
Both the Child Protection Policy and the Safeguarding Guidelines have been produced to help and support all those involved in junior golf administration and coaching.

EDITORS NOTES The English Golf Union Limited (EGU) has served as the governing body of male amateur golf in England since it was founded in 1924. Responsible for the training of England’s top amateur golfers the EGU organises all the major English amateur championships. Based at the National Golf Centre in Woodhall Spa, the EGU is one of the largest sports governing bodies in England looking after the interests of over 1,900 golf clubs and 740,000 club members. The EGU also works to increase the continued interest and participation in golf through their golf development initiative ‘Get into Golf’ and their Associate Membership Programme.
The EGU is a founding member of The England Golf Partnership (EGP) along with the English Ladies Golf Association (ELGA) and the PGA and is supported by the Golf Foundation and Sport England. The Whole Sport Plan for golf identifies how the EGP will achieve its vision of becoming ‘The Leading Golf Nation in the World by 2020’ from grass roots right through to elite level.
The Children in Golf Strategy Group (CiG) is an independently chaired partnership between: The PGA, PGA European Tour, The R&A, The Golf Foundation, English Golf Union, English Ladies’ Golf Association, Ladies Golf Union, Golf Union of Wales, Golf Union of Ireland, Ladies Irish Golfing Union, Golf Club Managers Association.
